City of Tracy brings Blues, Brews & BBQ to Downtown Plaza

Tracy, Calif. - Head to Downtown Tracy for an afternoon filled with live music, food and family fun! Tracy’s first Blues, Brews & BBQ event is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2015 from noon - 6:00pm. The Blues, Brews & BBQ event will be held at the beautiful Downtown Plaza located on the corner of 6th Street and Central Avenue. This event will include a barbecue contest, home brewed beer contest, children’s entertainment, food trucks and three live bands on stage.

Man killed during Modesto home invasion


A man was shot and killed inside a Modesto home Sunday night after two suspects entered the house armed with guns, Modesto police said.

Police said that a woman and two children were forced into her the home in the 800 block of Pine Tree Lane by the two suspects. Once inside, the suspects fired several shots, hitting a man who had been inside the house.

The woman and children were unharmed, and the suspects ran from the scene. It was unknown what was taken from the house. No other information about the victims was available.

Police don't suspect the robbery to be a random act of violence. The investigation is ongoing.

Both suspects were described to police as Hispanic men in their 20s. No other information about the suspects was available.

Police first reported the shooting around 11:40 p.m. Sunday.

Celebrate the end of our Summer Reading Challenge with Superhero Day at the Keyes Library on Tuesday, August 4 at 2:30 p.m. Children can play Pin the Symbol on Batman, a Spiderman Toss Game, and a Superhero Bean Bag Toss Game. Participants can also pose as their favorite superhero in our photo booth area and make superhero lollipops, masks, and scratch art. During the program, individuals can also use their super brain power to guess the number of candies in the jar with the closest guess winning the entire jar of candy. Children who participated in the Superhero Academy will also receive a diploma, which certifies they can assume their superhero identity. Individuals are welcome to come in costume, however, costumes are not required. Cake, snacks, and light refreshments will also be available while supplies last.

Bring a t-shirt, hat, or tote bag to dye at the Keyes Library on Wednesday, July 29 at 1 p.m. Participants can mix dyes and colors to create a one-of-a-kind design! The library will supply all the dye and other equipment needed to dye the item. Due to the nature of this program, parental supervision is required. One child per adult at a time.

Pacific announces new Sacramento degrees: Expansion is milestone in region’s higher education

University of the Pacific celebrated June 26 the expansion of its Sacramento campus, longtime home of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, into a multidisciplinary center that will educate the professionals California needs in the decades ahead.

Joining the law school will be new graduate programs in health, education, business and public policy. Five new degrees will be rolled out over the next two years: Master of Business Administration; Doctor of Education; Master of Public Policy; Master of Physician Assistant Studies; and Master of Public Administration.

“This is a watershed moment for our university,” said Pamela A. Eibeck, president of University of the Pacific. “Pacific has been a pioneer in higher education in California for more than a century and a half, and it is with great excitement that we expand our presence and service in the Sacramento region.”

Thomas Downey High School Class of 1985 Reunion

     I think that Summer is the time that many of us reflect on the past and all the good times(even more so than New Years.) In 1985 I graduated from Thomas Downey High School(yes I am a Duck) and for the next 3 months I was Free. At least until college started up. I remember helping paint my friend Phil's 1985 Nash Metropolitan, flames on the hood and going along the side panels and "the Love Machine" on the drivers side rear panel.  We then proceeded to cram way to many people into it so we could cruise McHenry and be a part of Graffiti USA. I remember going to concerts at Dazzles Underground and Oakwood Lake Resort. Hanging out and having fun with the best of friends. 30 Years have past and I am still friends with all th guys who crammed into that sub compact Nash Metro. Over the years I have lost touch with some of the friends I had made at Downey, I had moved away form Modesto like so many others only returning a few years back.
