University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music announces new music industry studies degree

Beginning in the fall, University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music will offer a bachelor of science in music industry studies designed to prepare students for success in today's music industry. The program is the first of its kind in the region.

"The Music Management Program has been very successful over the years in preparing students for careers in the music industry because the type of courses and experiences we offer has adapted as the industry has evolved," said Keith Hatschek, Music Management Program director who designed the music industry studies degree for the program.

The Women's International Music Network held their 3rd Annual She Rocks Awards ceremony in Anaheim, California during the NAMM Convention on January 23, 2015 celebrating outstanding women in the music industry.  This incredible event was hosted by WiMN founder Laura B. Whitmore, and platinum-selling guitarist Orianthi in the Hilton Hotel Pacific Ballroom which honored several women for their hard work and success.

University of the Pacific gears up for Black History Month celebration

University of the Pacific’s annual Black History Month celebration includes activities that honor the history and heritage of African-Americans and the African Diaspora. Throughout the month of February, students, faculty and staff put on numerous events, including a keynote speaker, gospel concert, poetry reading, roundtable discussions and various guest lecturers.

Activists Dr. Melba Beals and Dr. Angela Davis, gospel legends The Clark Sisters, and nationally recognized poet Rowan Ricardo Phillips will be featured as University of the Pacific celebrates Black History Month in February. The theme for this year’s celebration is “A Century of Black Life, History and Culture.”

The Pacific Mambo Orchestra (PMO) will cap off Delta’s annual "50 Jazz Band" Jazz Festival, Saturday, December 6, 8 p.m. in Atherton Auditorium. PMO won the 2014 Grammy for "Best Tropical Latin Album.” This dynamic 19 piece Latin Big Band from San Francisco plays Salsa, Mambo, Latin Jazz, and Cha Cha.
