Bay Valley Tech to teach coding affordably

MODESTO — There’s a new kind of school coming to the Central Valley. It’s a software coding academy called Bay Valley Tech that will prepare students for jobs in the technology industry.

Phil Lan is founding Bay Valley Tech with the help of private investors. Lan grew up in the Modesto area and believes the academy can help others get established in the tech industry and have a positive effect on the Central Valley.

Regional economy to remain solid in 2017 but could slow after

STOCKTON — California’s economy is expected to maintain a “solid” 2.6 percent growth this year, say economists with the Center for Business and Policy Research at the University of the Pacific.

Unemployment is expected to hold steady at 5.4 percent, but it job growth will likely slow to 1.6 percent.

Manteca Unified School District to hold job fair Wednesday

MANTECA — Teachers looking for a job can find out what’s available in Manteca at a job fair Wednesday.

Administrators will be interviewing and hiring on the spot for kindergarten through sixth grade, junior and high school, and special education positions for the 2017-18 school year.

Certificated teachers who are interested should submit an application on Edjoin by 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The job fair is from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Manteca Unified District Office located at 2271 W. Louise Ave. Manteca, CA 95337.
