California’s uninsured rate at record low

SACRAMENTO — California’s uninsured rate has fallen to a new record low, according to a survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The rate of uninsured Californians is 7.1 percent, down from 17 percent in 2013.

“From expanding Medi-Cal to launching a competitive state-based marketplace, California is empowering consumers and providing quality and value,” said Covered California Executive Director Peter V. Lee.

The CDC survey covered January to September 2016 and showed a dramatic improvement among national averages as well. In 2013, the uninsured rate was 14.4 percent nationally. In 2016, it was 8.8 percent.
