Stanislaus Culinary Arts Institute Announces Grand Opening/Open House

Community members are invited to tour the new Stanislaus Culinary Arts Institute at their Grand Opening on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. (1040 Wakefield Drive, Oakdale).  Operated by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE), the Stanislaus Culinary Arts Institute opened this year to alternative education students, as well as to Oakdale and Waterford High School students enrolled through their Regional Occupational Programs (ROP).  In addition, Columbia College is holding evening culinary classes at the campus beginning this fall.

Brett Tate felt the strong pull of heritage as he began pursuing his beer-brewing dream. His grandparents’ journey from drought-stricken Oklahoma to California over 70 years before was close to mind asTate walked into local eateries and taverns with samples of his newly crafted beer loaded into a small ice chest.

“I started my business when the economy was tanking, so there are definitely parallels with the 1930s,” Tate said. “My effort tied nicely into their search for adventure and a new life, to risk-taking, and that hard work and dedication helped them turn the corner.”

Oh, how I love Pinterest. It’s such a fun source for inspiration and new ideas. Someone pinned a cupcake bouquet and I knew right away that I had to create one myself. I couldn’t find any good guides on making them, so I put together a step by step photo tutorial for you so you can make one too. It’s really not that hard – pipe roses onto cupcakes (there’s an animated gif below to show you how), put them on some toothpicks into a styrofoam ball. Done!

“Spring Fling” Wine Tasting & Picnicking Weekend at The Old Sugar Mill

 Spring is upon us!  Bud break is days away, the trees are blossoming, wild flowers are blooming, and what better way to celebrate than a weekend of wine in Sacramento’s closest wine country, just 15 minutes from downtown Sacramento. 

The Clarksburg Wine Growers and Vintner’s Association is hosting the Second Annual “Spring Fling”, a two-day wine tasting event at the Old Sugar Mill, March 31st & April 1st. Admission includes wine tasting with more than a dozen wineries, offering a selection of amazing delta wines, live bands, commemorative wine glass and more.  Delicious cuisine and snacks will be available for purchase.
